Burning down the Maison

This is why Maison Martin Margiela has been the love of my life:

Margiela restarted the shoulder pad party back in 2007. His designs are always sick, and always ahead of the pack.

Here are some signature MM looks from his final/20th anniversary collection in Spring 2009
Nude and Neon. *swoon*
Hosiery Vs. Boots. I'm in nylon love.
Presentation is key.
Margiela is all about anonymity. Never being photographed or interviewed.
God bless acid wash.
Margiela has always been an advocate of volume and cerebral design.
I think Margiela had a lot to do with S/S '10's ubiquitous nude palette.
BRILLIANT. I love, love, love anything made out of hair.

Ever so esoteric and minimal. It's like a dream.
So Sci-Fi. This kind of reminds me a little of Logans Run.
I wonder if Marc's use of fros for Vuitton Spring 2010, was influenced by Martin's last year?
uh-maze-ing

Martin Margiela has long been an arbiter of the avante garde, innovation, and just plain cool.
Having been inspired by Rei Kawakubo (Comme des Garcon), and the Japanese Avante Garde movement of the eighties, Martin has moved the concepts of deconstruction, oversized proportions, and reworked vintage forward. He is part of the rebellious, anti-luxe, Antwerp Six, and has developed an uber cool, fiercely loyal following.
Since his Spring 2009 show, which was his 20th anniversary, it had been rumored he retired and was no longer designing the line. After all, his label had been mostly bought out in 2002 by Renzo Rosso, who built the Diesel Label, and they've had their differences. But no one really knew for sure, and all most could do was speculate, because he never is interviewed, photographed, or waving from the catwalk at the end of a show. And then this happened.
After seeing this, and swallowing our own vom, there was no doubt he went out for a pack of cigs and never came back. Just like that. No explanation. No goodbye. No break up sex.

spring 2010 = big womp

I kind of like this, but I mostly hate this.
What. the. fuck?
There is NO need for tropical, people.
Dude, reaaally?

Nice try. Not the same!

What awkward volume. And not in a good way.
This one really depressed me.

So, just like that, my love affair with the Maison was over. In a "we can't even be civil" way.

After that, Renzo had to come clean, stating: "Martin has not been there for a long time. He is here but not here. We have a new fresh design team on board. We are focusing on young, realistic energy for the future; this is really Margiela for the year 2015."

More like 2012. Cause that shit is the end of the world in my book.

I'm not the only one who feels this way, and today the label's chief executive, Giovanni Pungetti, stated that they wouldn't replace Marty as head designer/my man, but continue his vision with the design staff that he curated himself for the past 20 years.

Hmmm? Thats like saying: "You can keep our friends. See you never."

20 mind blowing years...over. So, I should be over it in 10 years, huh?

God this is gonna hurt.
